WHY ELOPEMENTS ARE THE WAY TO GET MARRIED IN NYC!!

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0002.jpg

WHY ELOPEMENTS / MICRO WEDDINGS ARE THE WAY TO GET MARRIED IN NYC!!

LESS IS MORE!

Having an elopement is a great idea! It’s so nice to host an intimate small elopement ceremony with close friends and family! Most of my couples elope first and even add on another bigger reception / party at another time! Whether you’re just sticking with the intimate elopement or planning a bigger NYC wedding later, here are a few reasons why I think you should have an elopement!

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0004.jpg

1. SAVE SOME MONEY….

You can also spend a little more on the parts for the elopement that will last and that matter most to YOU! For instance your WEDDING photos!! :D (But for real, wedding photos last forever… not anything else) But also if you want that beautiful BHLDN dress that you’ve been thinking about forever, those Cartier specialty rings, that DELICIOUS Taste Creme Cake, or that kick ass Fox Fodder Farm bouquet … GET IT… because you have the cash for it —instead of having it all tied up in a reception venue deposit! Best part is that you don’t even need to share the cake :)

But, if you choose to have an intimate elopement ceremony before the big reception party, you can also buy some time to….

2. SAVE UP FOR A BIGGER PARTY LATER!

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0005.jpg

You can save up for that amazing restaurant or dream venue (Hello, Blue Hill At Stone Barns), enjoy the food AND have that crazy dance party when the time is RIGHT! It’ll be even more fun because you don’t have to stress about the ceremony or any thing else! Just about enjoying yourself with your friends and family— eating, drinking and dancing away!

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0007.jpg

3. Less Headaches AND Deadlines

With a small intimate elopement ceremony, you don’t need to think about sending out save the dates, invitations, RSVPS, or venue deposits. Just call and text your closest people, tell them when and where to show up and you just show up too. :)

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0011.jpg

4.  More Time for Photography

This is honestly KEY. With a smaller and quieter ceremony, you’ll be able to have a much more of a laid back portrait session! Most large weddings have time constraints on photography since we’re always trying to rush back in time to the guests and the party schedule. But having a small elopement allows you to slow down and ease into more getting comfortable in front of the camera and allowing your photographer (hopefully me!) to get some amazing and intimate portraits of you two. You can even schedule to go to more locations around NYC since there are less people out and about.. and also less people to take care of and host during a big wedding day.

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0014.jpg

5. Less Traffic

This may seem like a silly thing to list… but in New York City, not having to sit in traffic is like a DREAM. Being able to get yourself and your close peoples to the right place at the right time will be much easier and also less headache. The less people you have to move around and plan for, the easier!

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0008.jpg

6. Zoom-Able to Meet in New York City

You can now just easily live-stream your wedding either via facebook, instagram, zoom, google meets- whatever!— so that those near and far can tune in on the festivities! Right in their pajamas! (You could also make them dress up- the fun is up to you!!) But it’s awesome because you can bring EVERYONE from all over the world to your intimate ceremony in New York City!

And last but not least…

WHY-ELOPE-IN-NYC-COVID19-WEDDING-IDEAS-ELOPEMENT-PHOTOGRAPHER-NEWYORKCITY-0012.jpg

7. Full Focus on Each Other

With all those 10,048,584,449 things out of the way when planning big weddings, you can truly SEE your significant other clearly and soak in every moment of your intimate ceremony. With less distractions, less things to stress over, less things to think about— you can truly remember WHY you’re marrying the person next to you and enjoy each other’s vows, I DO’s and first kiss! It really is an amazing way to start the next chapter in your life..

Where to Buy Cute Masks for your Wedding, Engagement or Elopement Shoot

WELCOME TO 2020!

As a born and raised NYC native, I can say with complete confidence- that have been through THE toughest few months of our lives. Corona Virus is so real.. and the only way to really combat or minimize the spread is to #WEARAMASK. Since NYC has mandated this, our cases have gone down significantly and we have flattened the curve. YESTERDAY, JULY 13th, 2020- we finally had our FIRST DAY in 136 days of this pandemic that we finally had our first 0 count deaths related to corona virus. WOW. I’m actually tearing. It’s quite a feat and from all the fear, anger, frustration that has been rampant these past few months, this is beautiful news.

With that being said, while we are at different phases of reopening our city in effect, it is even MORE crucial to wear a mask, socially distance, and stay safe! I’ve been super excited with the reopenings and super excited that people in New York City can again have small, intimate weddings and elopements again! HOORAY!! With that being said, a lot of people have been asking me for recommendations for face masks for their wedding day- so I decided to compile this great list to help you guys in finding what masks would work for you on your day— AND if you are a wedding guest, here are some great ideas for you to wear something chic and cute to the wedding! (these are in no particular order - so they are all great finds and it’s all depending on what style you personally like!)

Jonathan Simkhai

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- jonathansimkhai.jpg

My thoughts: These are the one the couple in my photograph are wearing! They are cute, fashionable and have a sleek and neutral style.

From their website: Each mask features an optional pouch for removable filter use. For every pack purchased, Jonathan Simkhai will donate a civilian mask to local front-line essential workers in need of non-medical mask protection. Each pack of two (2) contains one mask in each of the following colors: pacific floral print and lilac floral print. These masks are a linen/synthetic/stretch blend and should be washed before first use.

Madewell

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- madewell.jpg

My thoughts: Super cute designs and look very comfortable!

From their website: Our non-medical cotton face masks have secure elastic ear straps and a three-layered construction that includes a filter. Coming in a pack of three, they are designed to fit over the top of the nose and below the chin. Wondering why they sell out so fast? Each one is crafted from leftover fabric scraps, which means every color is a limited edition.

Baggu

My thoughts: Really FUN, bright and bold colors with interesting color blocking!

From their website: Help protect others and yourself. Our 3-pack of reusable, non-medical face masks are machine washable and made from 100% Kona Quilter’s Cotton. We chose quilter’s cotton because its tight weave and thick thread are effective at blocking respiratory droplets while remaining breathable and comfortable to wear. With proper care, these masks can be used over and over again. An adjustable strap and nose wire ensure a comfortable fit for most adults, and there is a pocket for a filter insert (not included). For every pack of masks sold, we’re donating a pack of surgical masks to healthcare workers.

Hedley & Bennett

My Thoughts: Looks sturdy and well made.

From their website: Washable, reusable fabric face mask — built for the front lines and the home front. We developed these non-medical masks in concert with Dr. Robert Cho, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at a local children’s hospital. It is designed so that you can insert a disposable filter within the fabric for an added layer of protection. Masks are one-size-fits-most.

My thoughts: Love the designs and donation idea to help No Kid Hungry.

From their website: We heard our community’s call for everyday cloth masks—so we teamed up with our Chicago-based textile factory partner to bring our very own version to the Shop. What’s more, 10% of the retail price will go to No Kid Hungry. No Kid Hungry is helping feed kids throughout the U.S. during the coronavirus pandemic—through emergency grants to schools and community groups, outreach to low-income families, and advocating for policies that help feed more kids. This donation helps kids get the meals they need, now and in the months to come. We took on this project not only to be there for you when you need it most and donate to a great cause, but also to support the factory’s sewing team, who are facing job uncertainty due to widespread closures and canceled orders.

Everlane

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- everlane.jpg

My thoughts: One of my personal fav brands!

From their website: We launched 100% Human back in 2017 to bring people together to support the fight for human rights. For every 100% Human Face Mask 5-Pack sold, we'll be donating 10% sales to the ACLU. To date, we've donated over $600K through this program. #HumanTogether. Each reusable non-medical mask is made from a double-layer knit cotton fabric and features comfortable ear loops. For optimal use, we suggest washing your mask before your first use and after every wear, plus washing your hands before putting it on and taking it off. Once it’s on, do your best to avoid adjusting. (And as always, try not to touch your face.)

BHLDN

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- bhldn.jpg

My thoughts: Really delicate and soft looking patterns and styles.

From their website: Featuring soft cotton construction and elastic ear loops for a comfortable fit, these non-medical face coverings are perfect for everyday use. These reusable masks can be disinfected or washed after each wear, minimizing your exposure and optimizing safety and ease for yourself and others.

Tory Burch

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- toryburch.jpg

My thoughts: Fun, bolder colors. Not for profit!!

From their website: In prints that tie back to the summer collection, our new Face Masks are made from two layers of lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric. To ensure a comfortable fit, each mask has a contoured wire at the nose, adjustable ear loops and an interior pocket that fits a filter (not included). Sold in sets of five, including one of each print.

We will not be making a profit on these. The price includes our cost to produce and a $10 donation that will be divided between two organizations. $5 will be donated to International Medical Corps working to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the United States and around the world, and $5 will be donated to the Tory Burch Foundation, working to advance women’s empowerment and women entrepreneurs; with a maximum donation of $500,000 to each organization.

Smoko

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- smoko.jpg

  • Washable, reusable cloth face mask

  • Made of 97% Cotton, 3% Spandex

Vista Print

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- vistaprint.jpg

My thoughts: Endless possibilities. Also I hear these are one of the most comfortable masks out there. Who knew that a business card printing company would make such great masks? Haha

  • Quality construction with extra stitching

And they donate a portion of their profits to small businesses affected by COVID.

Katie May

My thoughts: Great designs and aesthetics

From their website: The Sustainable Masks are non-medical grade, 100% doubled deadstock cotton, and feature behind-the-ear elastic. They are reusable and washable. Please note, colors and prints may vary. For best practices, hand wash before first use and after each subsequent use, and lay flat to dry. Refrain from touching the mask or your face once you have put it on!

Jenny Eng

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- jennyeng2.jpg

My thoughts: I LOVE the lady who makes these! She is an amazing designer and mother and she HAND makes all of these masks with NATURAL products (she even has organic options!!!), love and care! You can also CUSTOMIZE your masks with her!! SHOP LOCAL, because this gal is born and raised in NYC as well! <3

From their website: Jenny Eng Studio is known for their modern prints and using natural based fabrics. It was easy to add the same touch to our fabric masks. First developed during the start of covid where there was a shortage supply in mask. We decided to create these functional, yet sustainable masks that can be reused over and over again. Keeping in mind that we wanted to create something tasteful, fun and comfortable to wear. Our best selling mask is simple: beautiful fabric featuring a filter pocket and of course comfy adjustable elastic. A few of our top sellers and favs are: Sushi Time Print Nude Floral Lemons These prints are fresh and can be worn to run errands and even to special events. Our masks becomes part of our outfit. It can be positive and not so mundane.

ForYourParty.com

NYC-WEDDING-PHOTOGRAPHER-WHERE-TO-BUY-CUTE-PRETTY-FACE-MASKS-FOR-WEDDING-DAY-GUESTS-CORONAVIRUS- foryourparty copy.jpg

Small adjustments in terms of spacing and size may be made. You may purchase a proof if you wish to approve any changes or review final artwork before production.

Having extra, re-usable masks all around you is important!
